PROGRAMS

“So a comedian walks into a library and decides to work there...”

Stand-Up Librarian was designed to educate and entertain people about the importance of libraries and literacy so there are a variety of programs for all age groups available for your library, school, bookstore or corporate event. For more information on programs, which vary from performances and presentations for adults, story time and summer reading programs for children, and comedy classes and parties for teens, see descriptions below and/or email StandUpLibrarianMM@gmail.com for booking details.
Join Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers for an all ages literary comedy show...at the library! No cover charge or 2-drink minimum required. A cross between Pippi Longstocking and Sandra Bernhard, Meredith entertains while educates about the importance of libraries and literacy as she addresses everything from the Dewey Decimal System to book clubs and Harry Potter. Bring a love of reading and get ready to laugh.

Stand-Up CHILDREN'S Librarian:

"Seashell Program"
Meredith is on the Board of Directors of the St. Petersburg Shell Club and has an international shell collection featuring over 1,000 seashells that she takes into schools and libraries to educate children about shelling via a multimedia presentation that includes books on shells, parody songs, hands on activities, and free shells for all!

"Home Improvement Program"
Thanks to her employment with The Home Depot where she was in charge of the monthly Kids Workshop, Meredith teaches children how easy it is to build art projects using hammers, screwdrivers and little wood glue.  Then it is on to painting and seeing how just a little color can make a big difference.  A fun DIY approach to arts and crafts for kids of all ages - that's the power of tools!

Stand-Up YA Librarian:

"Stand-Up Comedy Program"
Incorporating her twelve-year career in stand-up comedy, Meredith shares the realities of life as a aspiring comic and teaches teens the basics of joke writing utilizing materials found at the library.  In just a two-hour session, teens will be able to write premises and punchlines on topics of their own choosing to be performed by the end of the program for their peers.

Stand-Up Librarian:

Meredith regularly performs at library staff days, conferences and annual meetings; hosts literary events and book clubs; acts as spokesperson and MC for book fairs; and performs literary comedy shows across the country.  She is often asked to be key note speaker at corporate and community events to discuss her journey into becoming the Stand-Up Librarian, where her mission is to inspire and motivate people to create their own opportunities when faced with unemployment or opposition.  Outfitted in her own literary creations, Meredith is always interested in exploring any opportunity to promote literacy in a fun and entertaining way either through presentations and workshops, improv sketches with staff and personnel, and/or performing literary parody songs with a raven on her head dressed as Edgar Allan Poe.
