The new Diagon Alley section of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter sponsored a media preview in the Universal Studios Florida theme park in Orlando on June 18, and Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers was there to report on the festivities: “If you are a die-hard Harry Potter fan, you are going to lose your mind faster than getting hit with a Memory Charm as you take your first steps into Diagon Alley when the land officially opens July 8.” Check out her videos of Red Carpet interviews, tours of the park and concessions, and a ride on the Hogwarts Express....Tampa Bay (Fla.) Meredith Myers —clad in a tool-motif dress with a red petticoat, pigtails, and a variety of power tools—performed April 12 at the ARTpool Gallery, an artist co-op and vintage store in St. Petersburg, Florida. Myers is part comedian, part performance artist, part book nerd, and part librarian who has created an act for herself as the Stand-Up Librarian. “I am a librarian with a master’s degree working for a home improvement center and having the time of my life,” she told the crowd. “Do it yourself. Do not wait around for people to give you a job.”...Tampa Bay (Fla.) Times, Apr. 30

Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers (right) loves James Joyce and all things Irish, so in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, she decided to mash up James Joyce with the 1990s hit “Jump Around” by House of Pain. Grab your copy of Ulysses or Finnegan’s Wake and get ready to “Joyce Around” (3:51) at the James Joyce Irish Pub in Ybor City, Florida. Myers explains how she came up with the idea....YouTube, Mar. 17; StandUpLibrarian, Mar. 17

Meredith Myers, the StandUpLibrarian, writes: “I decided to premiere my new holiday literary parody video live on stage in early December where I choreographed a chase sequence with a real ginger man (my friend, librarian Justin Brasher) and concluded with gingerbread man cookies I baked myself. Watch ‘I Ran After the Gingerbread Man’ (5:06), a mashup of ‘I Ran (So Far Away)’ by A Flock of Seagulls with the Gingerbread Man folktale.”...

One highlight at the ALA PopTop Stage on Monday was the debut performance of the 817’s (for you Dewey-challenged folk, that’s “American humor and satire”), a comedy troupe consisting of Stand-Up Librarian Meredith Myers (center), MLIS of Fortune (and singer) Danica Sheridan, and RUSA’s own Mr. Reference, Dave Tyckoson. In addition to the finale song, a karaoke version of Madonna’s “Girl Gone Wild” (be sure to watch the amazing video, 4:54), the 817’s performed stand-up and improv, and debuted a hilarious Dos Equis spoof video, “The Most Interesting Librarian in the World,” featuring none other than former ALA President Michael Gorman....AL: Annual Conference blog, June 26
